Reharvesting the Urban Forest
The Reclaimer, LLC began when Gary Schwirblat was working as a contractor in LA and realized wood from demolished buildings in LA was going into landfills ground up for fertilizer, releasing large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. Plus, the wood was mostly 100 yr old Douglas Fir, superior quality to new growth wood.
Reclaimed wood is the greenest building product available and its beauty is perfect for the design goals of business and homeowners. Gary just began saving the wood because his childhood summers spent study conservation made it difficult for him to see it go to waste but. Finally his stockpile was so big he had to do something, so he partnered up with Eric to find end users. The more wood The Reclaimer sells the more they keep out of landfills.
